The Historical Society of Topsail Island is proud to present LTC Retired Gary O. Green who will speak about NC in the American Revolution

About our speaker…

LTC (RET) Gary O. Green is a native of Oneonta, New York and is a retired United States Air Force Officer with 23 years of service.  He is a 1970 graduate of Hobart College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and where he received his Air Force commission through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps.  In 1975, he completed a master’s degree in Personnel Counseling at Troy State University and in 1994 achieved a second master’s degree in education from Old Dominion University.

On retirement from the United States Air Force in October of 1993, Mr. Green was employed as a substitute teacher in the Yorktown, Newport News and Poquoson, Virginia school systems, as well as Davis Middle School in Hampton, Virginia.  He became a teacher in the New Hanover County School System, teaching at Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington, NC where he retired in July 2014.  He was the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor, AFJROTC NC 802 and was honored as the Laney High School Teacher of the Year for 2006-2007.

Mr. Green is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and is the Genealogist General, from 2022-2024 for the National Society Sons of the American Revolution.  He has held many different positions for the National Society to include Trustee/Alternate Trustee-North Carolina Society, Secretary – Council of State Presidents and Vice Chair – Genealogical Research Committee.  Some of his North Carolina State Society Service includes President, State Sr Vice President, State Secretary and Southeast District #2 Vice President.
